Tax Credit from Maryland Historic Trust

Because of our historic status, Carderock residents can qualify for a 20% state income tax credit through the Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) for some maintenance expenses. 

Updates that may be covered include:

• Roof
• Skylights
• Window replacement
• Wood siding
• New furnace and AC systems

The fine print

A 20% state tax credit is a good thing. But it's not as easy to get as you may hope.

• An MHT application must be approved before work starts. 
• The application is time-consuming. You'll need to describe all the work you plan, and include photos of the entire exterior and affected interior rooms. 
• After you submit the application it can take a month or more to get approval.
